The Caravaggio exhibition in Rome.
From February 18th 2010 to June 13th 2010
The 2010 brings with it an important moment of history: it is about the anniversary of the fourth centenary from the death of the great Italian artist and painter Michelangelo Merisi, well known as Caravaggio.


The exhibition, held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic in order to celebrate this anniversary, has been conceived by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo - Scuderie del Quirinale and the Special Superintendency for Artistic, Historical and Ethno-anthropological Heritage and for the City of Rome Museum Pole in Rome.

The aim of the exhibition is the one to draw into attention the opera of this great Italian artist, born in 1571, second of a radically innovative, up-to-date perspective. Research studies and interests have been strongly concentrated on not only the Caravaggio’s life and his artistic career, but also for the large number of exhibitions revolving around his name in the recent years. All this is nowadays the result of a project of a new interesting and ambitious exhibition that will be organized second of a standard with a philological approach, more synthetic than anthological, it reveals some of the most important artworks of the great Lombard.
In fact, there will be exposed among other works Il Bacco from the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Davide con la testa di Golia from the Borghese Gallery in Rome, I Musici from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

In order to place the paintings at a precise timeline and to better define their origin and their geographic system have been analyzed carefully and different literary sources and volume of documentary material collected. Thanks to it, has been excluded from the exhibition all that setting that usually is attributed to his “workshop”.
